Falling Leaves, The Playford Hotel, and Shadow Spirit
Introducing our latest innovation - Falling Leaves 2.0
Building upon the success of our original porcelain design, we have taken this concept to new heights by crafting it with stunning forged glass. This new iteration captures the essence of autumn in an ethereal and breathtaking way. Each glass leaf is delicately handcrafted, featuring intricate details that mimic nature. As light filters through these translucent glass leaves, it emanates a warm and captivating glow, transforming any space into a magical haven. Falling Leaves 2.0 is a testament to our commitment to combining artistry with functionality, creating a truly extraordinary lighting experience.
Still a work in progress, our most recent installation at EASTS League Club in Brisbane transforms the club's foyer into a captivating oasis. We installed 300 custom-made forged glass leaves in a mesmerizing array of sizes and textures. As guests enter, they are welcomed by the stunning sight of these suspended glass leaves, which are expertly reflected in the retrofitted smokey mirror ceiling. We carefully positioned lighting to illuminate the glass leaves enhancing the enchantment and creating an ethereal effect reminiscent of walking through a magical forest, where sunlight filters through the lush tree canopies.

Arguably the most visible part of The Playford Hotel, the reception had recently lost its lustre. This had the effect of bringing down the public perception of the entire venue. Therefore, it was determined to prioritise the renovation of this space while driving a narrative that would underpin the redevelopment of the remainder of the hotel. The budget did not permit a complete rebuild, so the design team at Hachem instead updated several existing features while adding a number of striking additions. For instance, the existing ceiling coffer was rendered with a curved edge to deliver a contemporary take on this classic feature. Walls were wrapped and ribbed to complement the ceiling design while our Falling Leaves sculptural chandelier draws on the ornamental motifs of Art Nouveau. This combination of modern and traditional elements breathes new life into the hotel, creating an atmosphere of elegance and sophistication.
Shadow Spirit at Flinders Street Station
Featuring 30 First Peoples artists and collectives, Shadow Spirit is a remarkable exhibition that takes place in the derelict upper level of Flinders Street Station. Curated by Kimberley Moulton, a Yorta Yorta woman, for Rising 2023, this groundbreaking blockbuster exhibition serves as both the physical and spiritual centre of the festival. Until July 30, visitors to Shadow Spirit will be immersed in the rich tapestry of Ancestral knowledge systems, paying homage to First Peoples' interconnectedness with the spirit world and the intrinsic links between place, people, and Country. With a harmonious blend of works from esteemed Elders and emerging artists, this ambitious national show will offer audiences a deeply nuanced experience of First Peoples' cultures. Shadow Spirit amplifies the exceptional contemporary creativity of First Peoples art in this country and presents an opportunity to share it with the people of Melbourne and the world.
