ILANEL Design Studio is a product design company formed in 2010, composing light art and design in Melbourne, australia.

Along with a network of local artisans and fabricators, the ILANEL team is a remarkable blend of creativity, expertise, and passion for exceptional design. With diverse backgrounds and a shared love for craftsmanship, our team members bring a wealth of experience to the table. From skilled artisans to innovative designers, we collaborate seamlessly, embracing each other's strengths to deliver stunning and unique lighting solutions. All products are made-to-order based on the atelier's collection or custom-designed.

ILANEL's work is internationally recognised for its innovation, merging artisanal craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology to produce pieces that are both timeless and forward-thinking. Whether designing for residential, commercial, or public spaces, Ilan consistently challenges conventional boundaries to create lighting that is not only functional but also an artistic centrepiece.

A nod to nature respects place as an environment, while the application of science reflects our potential as human beings. These motivations meet an intersection of industrial design. The atelier's work takes you into an experiential realm whilst remaining accessible and functional. This medley of experience, observation and sensory function forms a unique take on what would otherwise be a decorative piece.

A conscious adaptation to design affords each luminaire a low impact environmental journey. By using considered materials and processes, ILANEL Design Studio is in touch with the path of every object from concept to the end of its life cycle.

With over 15 years of local production and international reach, ILANEL Design Studio continues to meet the demands of modern times with pieces that are efficient and functional while garnering an effect of contemplation.

In 2010, Ilan established ILANEL Design Studio, positioning it as a leader in bespoke lighting design and production.

ABOUT ILAN

Ilan El is the founder and visionary behind ILANEL Design Studio, a Melbourne-based atelier celebrated for its bespoke luminaires and large-scale light-based installations. Born in Israel, Ilan's creative journey began with training and practicing as an architect, where he developed a strong foundation in design and spatial concepts. In 2005, he relocated to Melbourne to join the Master of Design program at RMIT University, where he deepened his understanding of lighting design principles, the physics of light, and its psychological and emotional impact on people.

This transformative experience sparked Ilan's passion for crafting immersive and experiential lighting. Fascinated by the interplay of light, colour, and perception, Ilan explored how light could create emotional resonance and enhance human connections. His designs often incorporate interactive, playful, and automated elements, showcasing light's transformative power to inspire joy and foster a sense of connectivity.

In 2010, Ilan established ILANEL Design Studio, a practice dedicated to the creation of custom lighting pieces and large-scale installations. His work is characterised by its innovative approach to the visible spectrum, exploring how light interacts with form, movement, and reflection. From glowing sculptural objects to captivating installations, Ilan's creations often transform spaces into dynamic environments that encourage engagement and introspection.

Ilan’s pieces, such as the ORA and the Rain Collection, highlight his ability to seamlessly blend art, design, and technology. His work has been featured in prestigious events such as the 2020 NGV Triennial, cementing his reputation as a leader in contemporary luminaire design. Through his practice, Ilan continues to redefine the role of light in design, offering experiences that are as functional as they are poetic.
